How to Wear a Tie Bar and Elevate Your Style

Some men’s accessories, like watches and ties, are traditional. These add-ons are worn almost every day and are a classic finishing touch for both casual and formal ensembles. Other accessories—like tie bars, for example—are an unexpected and sophisticated way to elevate any outfit.

Learn how to wear a tie bar the right way to take your style to the next level.

When to Wear a Tie Bar:

You can wear a tie bar with almost any outfit to infuse it with a hint of your personality. With or without a jacket, the tie bar is about both form and function. It will keep your tie in place all day but also act as an accessory, making it the perfect finishing touch to add a flash of personality at events like weddings, dinners, or vacations.
You can wear a tie bar with a variety of different looks. If you’re wearing just a shirt and tie, a tie bar can add a flash of personality and style to an otherwise simple ensemble. You can also add a tie bar to a full suit. Try coordinating it with your cuff links or pocket square for a cohesive vibe overall. You can even wear a tie bar with a vest (with our without a jacket) to add an eye-catching accessory that is equally unexpected and elevated.

How to Choose a Tie-Bar:

One of the most important things to keep in mind when picking your tie bar: It should never be wider than your tie. The tie bar, instead, should be about three-quarters of the width of your tie. Be sure you keep the tie bar sizing in mind to give you an effortless and modern overall look.
Be sure to also choose a tie bar that complements the rest of your outfit. If your style is sleek and monochromatic, choose a tie bar with bold lines and strong design. If, on the other hand, your outfit is playful and colorful, choose a tie bar that is bright and bold. Our Valencia tie bar, available in both neutral and vibrant hues, has you covered for both looks. The most important thing to keep in mind for tie bars—and all of your accessories—is to pick pieces that best complement your personal style and aesthetic.
No matter which tie bar you choose, your outfit is instantly refreshed. When paired with other upscale accessories like cuff links, a tie bar is the final piece that pulls the who ensemble together. This extra detail is a sophisticated way to elevate your overall look and step up your style with a hint of luxury.

How to Wear a Tie Bar:

Adding a tie bar to your look is easy, and the first step is to find the perfect placement. A tie bar should always go between the third and fourth buttons of your shirt. If you are wearing a jacket with a higher button, you can move the tie bar up slightly to accommodate the jacket style. Otherwise, the tie bar should be about the same level as your jacket pocket.
Be sure to also put your tie bar on correctly. The front of the clip should sit over your tie, while the back of the clip should slip into the placket of your shirt to keep your tie secure all day. The tie bar should be perfectly straight and horizontal—don’t wear it at an angle—for a sleek and effortless finish.
